Healthy Diet and Daily Instructions for People with Hypothyroidism – Allowed:

It is important that people with hypothyroidism abide by the following instructions.

General advice for people with hypoactive thyroid:

  1. Do daily exercise to help relieve tension and stress. It is recommended to also do relaxation exercises such as yoga, Pilates and breathing ‎exercises. Exercising on a daily ‎basis improves metabolism, increases thyroid function, improves mood (raises ‎the level of endorphins), and increases blood flow in the body.‎

Preferably, mix the following: ‎leafy ‎greens, sprouts, apples, pears, papayas‎. B ‎vitamins are essential for various metabolic processes and are involved in ‎the ‎production of thyroid hormones. They are also essential for maintaining ‎healthy ‎functioning of various body systems.‎

Fruits and Vegetables

  1. Eat fruits and vegetables because they are considered a rich source of ‎antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that inhibit the activity of free radicals ‎and improve metabolism.‎
  2. Eat fruits and vegetables high in fiber. Fibers help eliminate body waste, improve ‎intestinal flora (gastrointestinal germs) and protect mucous membranes of ‎the digestive system.‎
  3. Eat fruits and vegetables that have high content of B vitamins such leafy greens, sprouts, root vegetables, apples, pears and ‎papayas). B vitamins are essential for various metabolic processes and are ‎involved in the production of thyroid hormones. They are also essential for ‎maintaining healthy functioning of various body systems.‎

Whole grains – Legumes – Seeds and Nuts

  1. Eat flax seeds because they have high content of fiber and omega 3 fatty acid. Fatty ‎acids are important for the production of thyroid hormones and for the healthy and ‎normal functioning of the nervous system, as well as to strengthen the immune ‎system.
  2. ‎Eat foods high in other essential fatty acids such as various seeds and raw nuts ‎and ‎almonds.‎
  3. ‎Eat foods high in fiber such as whole grains, ‎legumes, ‎oatmeal, ‎bran, and flaxseeds. Fibers help eliminate body waste, ‎improve ‎intestinal flora‎ (gastrointestinal germs), and protect mucous ‎membranes of ‎the digestive system.‎
  4. ‎Eat food that have high content of B vitamins such whole grains (whole ‎rice, ‎oatmeal, quinoa) and legumes (lentils, beans). B ‎vitamins are essential for various metabolic processes and are ‎involved in the ‎production of thyroid hormones. They are also essential for ‎maintaining healthy ‎functioning of various body systems.‎
  5. Eat half a tablespoon of ground fenugreek twice a day (morning and ‎evening). ‎
  6. ‎Eat half a tablespoon of ground Nigella sativa – Black cumin twice a day (morning and ‎evening). ‎

Fish and Seafood

  1. ‎Eat foods that contain iodine like algae, fish and sea salt. (Be careful if you ‎take Altroxen drug because it may cause hyperthyroidism).‎
  2. Eat foods high in omega 3 fatty acid like salmon, Mackerel, and other fish that live in cold waters. Fatty acids are important for the production of thyroid hormones and for the healthy and normal functioning of the nervous system, as well as to strengthen the immune system.

Healthy Diet and Daily Instructions for People with Hypothyroidism – Prohibited:

  1. Foods that contain goitrogenic substances (that disrupt the production of thyroid hormones) such as soy beans, peanuts, white corn, garlic, onions and vegetables of the cruciferae family (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, Turnip, mustard). Good cooking of these foods invalidates the goitrogenic structure.
  2. Fast foods and processed foods that contain preservatives and flavorings. These foods weaken the body’s systems and make your thyroid gland work harder.
  3. Foods that contain saturated fats such as beef, processed foods, margarine, butter, and refined oils.
  4. Allergenic foods especially in case of Hashimoto’s. Preferably, avoid Wheat, cow milk, dairy, corn, soybeans, citrus, walnuts, peanuts, tomatoes, coffee, and chocolate.
  5. Foods that contain fats, saturated oils, starches, sugars, preservatives and snacks.
  6. Dairy products and cow milk.
  7. Avoid consumption of alcohol, soft drinks and energy drinks.
  8. Avoid smoking.
